If you’re like me, nothing signals the start of the Christmas season like Christmas carols filling the air and every single radio station. I love a good remake of a classic, but the lyrics of the original Christmas carols and songs fill my heart with joy and help me to meditate on Jesus as the cause for this celebratory season. Below are some of my favorite lyrics from some of my favorite Christmas hymns. I’d love to hear from you about your favorite songs to celebrate the season!
The shepherds rose, and saw a star
Bright in the East, beyond them far
Its beauty gave them great delight
This star it set now day nor night
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel-The First Noel
Silent Night
Holy Night
All is calm
All is bright
Round yon virgin
Mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace-Silent Night
O come, all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye, o come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels!
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord-Oh Come All Ye Faithful
The shepherds feared and trembled
When lo above the earth
Rang out the angel chorus
That hailed our saviour’s birth
Go, tell it on the mountain
Over the hills and everywhere
Go, tell it on the mountain
That Jesus Christ is born-Go Tell It on the Mountain
Away in a manger
No crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus
Lay down His sweet head
The stars in the sky
Look down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay-Away in a Manger
-I Heard the Bells
Come they told me
Pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see
Pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring
Pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the kIng
Pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum
So to honor Him
Pa rum pum pum pum
When we come-Little Drummer Boy
It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth
To touch their harps of gold!
Peace on the earth, good will to men,
From heaven’s all gracious King!
The world in solemn stillness lay
To hear the angels sing.-It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
